National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families.
Every April Child Abuse Prevention Month is an opportunity to learn about the signs of child abuse and how to prevent it.
However, we should not stop in April. Continue taking the opportunity to learn the signs all year long. Strong, nurturing communities that are supportive of families can get involved and play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect and promoting child and family well-being.
Our community’s strength paired with IFS’s goal of providing trauma-informed services related to promoting child and family well-being and protecting children, can ensure that they grow up to achieve their full potential, free from abuse and neglect.
In May we will observe National Foster Care Month. This is a time to recognize that, as a community, all of us can play a part in enhancing the lives of children and youth in foster care. All youth deserve an opportunity to be nurtured to live up to their full potential.
