  • Since 1971, IFS has been successfully serving youth struggling with educational and behavioral issues caused by poverty and unstable homes.

  • The children and youth we serve at IFS range from birth to 21 years of age.

  • Almost all of our youth population are from single-parent households, and in foster care or residential programs.

  • They are  predominately 90% African-American, between the ages of 16 and 18, largely from Newark (85% of our population), and the remainder from  East Orange and Irvington.

  • IFS clients are at substantial risk of dealing with abuse, neglect or other mental health issues; school failure; involvement in the criminal justice system; out-of-home placement; currently unemployed or underemployed and/or critical judgment errors.
