  • Since 1971, IFS has been successfully serving our youth struggling with educational and behavioral issues caused by poverty and unstable homes.
  • The children and youth we serve at IFS range from birth to 21 years of age.
  • Almost all of our youth population are from single-parent households and in foster care or residential programs.
  • They are predominately 90% African-American, ranging from 16-18 years of age, largely from Newark (85% of our population) and the remainder from East Orange and Irvington.
  • IFS clients are at substantial risk of dealing with abuse, neglect or other mental health issues, failure in school, involvement in the criminal justice system, out-of-home placement, currently unemployed or underemployed and/or critical judgment errors.
